What are Seven General Security Tips?
To ensure effective protection while staying within legal boundaries, we follow these seven general security tips:
- Stay vigilant and report anomalies: Continuously scan your surroundings for changes like unsecured doors or unusual behavior. Report these to a supervisor immediately and document them in the shift log.
- Communicate clearly and professionally: Use active listening and clear verbal instructions to de-escalate tense situations and gather accurate facts from everyone you encounter.
- Wear your full uniform and visible identification: We ensure our guards display their provincial security license and photo ID at all times, as required by BC law.
- Know the legal limits of your authority: Never exceed your legal bounds. Force should only be used as a last resort and must be strictly necessary and proportionate to the threat.
- Secure all access credentials: Properly manage all keys, access cards, and codes to prevent unauthorized entry. Always verify a person’s identity before granting access and log each handover.
- Complete incident reports immediately: Record factual documentation—including dates, times, locations, and witness details—right after an occurrence to preserve an accurate account.
- Maintain physical and mental wellbeing: Staying hydrated, alert, and rested is essential. Managing fatigue ensures that judgment and reaction times remain sharp during duty.
