What are the 5 Levels of Fall Protection?
We utilize a structured hierarchy to guide fall protection measures, which prioritizes the most effective methods first. This systematic approach ensures that worker safety is integrated into our broader construction site loss prevention strategies throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
The 5 levels of fall protection are:
- Elimination: This is the most effective preventive measure and involves redesigning tasks or the site itself to avoid working at heights entirely.
- Passive Fall Protection: We implement physical barriers, such as guardrails, which protect workers without requiring their active participation or specialized equipment use.
- Fall Restraint Systems: These systems use anchors and lanyards to physically prevent a worker from being able to reach a hazardous edge.
- Fall Arrest Systems: If a fall occurs, these systems—consisting of anchorage, body support, and connecting devices—are designed to catch the worker and minimize potential injury.
- Administrative Controls: The final level relies on human behavior and includes safety training, warning signs, and established procedures to influence how workers interact with hazards.
Because every project phase presents different risks, we recommend a custom site assessment to determine which combination of these safety measures and physical security—such as live CCTV monitoring and on-site security guards—is right for your development. Please note that services are subject to site assessment and custom quotation; results and pricing may vary. Consult a licensed security professional for site-specific advice.
